Al Marjan Island organised a special ceremony to honour the government entities and other partners for their unwavering support in hosting the ‘2018 Ras Al Khaimah New Year’s Eve Fireworks’ which set the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the ‘Largest aerial firework shell’.

At the ceremony, mementos were presented to senior officials of various government entities including Ras Al Khaimah Police, Public Works & Services Department, UAE National Ambulance, RAK Tourism Development Authority and Etisalat, among others.

Held at Al Marjan Island, Double Tree, the ceremony was attended by high-ranking government officials and senior representatives of the various government entities and private sector partners. A presentation of the ‘2018 Ras Al Khaimah New Year’s Eve Fireworks’ was made before the distinguished audience.

Addressing the participants, Eng. Abdullah Al Abdooli, CEO of Al Marjan Island, thanked the officials for their dedicated efforts, commitment and support to making the event a spectacular success.

He said: “The efficient coordination of the government entities and our partners enabled us to set an impressive milestone with the New Year’s Eve Gala. Every aspect of the event was seamlessly coordinated with the support of the government entities, right from preparing the venue to ensuring smooth traffic and visitor arrivals. The focus on the safety and security of visitors was of paramount importance, and the government entities went beyond the call of duty to ensure that the preparations and on-ground operations were of the highest standards.”

Eng. Abdullah Al Abdooli added: “The success of the ‘2018 Ras Al Khaimah New Year’s Eve Fireworks’ has added to our national pride and established Ras Al Khaimah on the global map for New Year’s Eve events as well as a year-round tourist destination. There has been significant interest in the emirate and Al Marjan Island from across the world, and we will build on this momentum to promote inward investments and tourism to our emirate. We thank all our partners as well as the public for their overwhelming support to the event. It inspires us to create and deliver an even more memorable celebration for the coming New Year’s Eve.”

Powered by 1.090 tonne (1,089.545 kg; 2,397 lbs) of fireworks, the New Year’s Eve extravaganza was attended by hundreds of thousands of visitors, including a sizeable number of international tourists. Designed by Phil Grucci, CEO and Creative Director, and executed by Fireworks by Grucci for Al Marjan Island and with the support of key governmental entities of Ras Al Khaimah, the event was verified by an official Adjudicator from GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS, and the bid for the ‘Largest aerial firework shell’ was officially recognised.

Elaborate preparations went into the hosting of the event. More than 5,000 additional public car parking spaces were provided to welcome the guests. While it took over 600 hours to design the show by Phil Grucci, another 70,000 man-hours went into transitioning the design with a team of 40 experts including programmers, producers, pyrotechnicians and documentarians working on the project.
